With a depth and intensity befitting its status, the color is shimmering.
A dark ruby with purple hues, it testifies to a harvest of beautiful maturity, without yielding to heaviness. A grand cru that asserts itself even before being brought to the nose.
What aromatic dignity. The nose opens generously and frankly on a remarkably pure, tart red fruit: morello cherry and fresh cherry dominate, vibrant and precise, carried by a tension that evokes freshness without ever betraying maturity. The two coexist, in perfect balance, in that paradox unique to the greatest Burgundian wines. Then come the spices (pepper, light cinnamon), and this seductive smoky note that adds additional depth to an already complex and captivating aromatic palette. A grand cru nose, open and racy, leaving no doubt as to the identity of the place.
On the palate, this Latricières-Chambertin lives up to all its promises. The attack is dense, assertive, carried by firm but remarkably coated tannins, that tight yet velvety grain that characterizes the great terroirs of the Côte de Nuits at their best. The acidity, worthy of the greatest, structures the whole with surgical precision and gives this wine the verticality that makes great bottles. We find the aromas of morello cherry, macerated cherry, as well as the subtle note of faded rose.
The mid-palate is sumptuous: generous, fleshy, with a deep salinity that anchors the wine in its terroir and gives it this additional mineral dimension. Nothing is superfluous, nothing is missing.
The persistence is very beautiful, long, saline and spicy, carried by this tart fruit that echoes, again and again. The Côte de Nuits speaks here with absolute clarity. This is not a wine that tries to impress; it is simply great, with the quiet discretion of those who have nothing to prove.
The density of the material, the coated firmness of the tannins, and the beautiful structuring acidity make it a wine destined for a long life in the cellar. It is superb today for those who can read a wine in the making, but it will truly come into its own in several years.
A grand cru of fine craftsmanship, both dignified and generous, bearing the name Chambertin with the elegance and sincerity one is entitled to expect from it. Undeniably majestic.
